My Hero Academia, also known as Boku No Hero Academia, is one of the latest shonen anime sensations.
Since its premiere in 2016, anime has become a worldwide phenomenon, and Kohei Horikoshi (the manga author) has upped the game.
Fans love the unique take on the shonen genre with an array of characters striving for one thing only. As everyone tries to become No. 1, coalitions and teamwork go out the window, and only the fittest will survive.
This has provided the viewers with a unique experience and introduced us to some of the best anime characters.
We have some well-celebrated heroes and plenty of villains to match. Then there are the main guys- students and teachers working together to create the next generation of Pro Heroes.
But who is the cream of the crop?
Who is the brightest student? Which hero is the strongest? And which villain is near invincible? Here’s how we rank the best BNHA characters.
But first, some exciting news.

My Hero Academia Characters – Ranking The Teachers, Students, Heroes, & Villains!
If we were to count MHA all characters, there are 200+ characters in the Academia-verse. And out of those, we’ve only seen about 120 characters animated. But that’s still quite a long list of characters.
There are the teachers beating the students into shape while the pro heroes fight the villains. Other recurring characters are roaming about too. But they won’t be occurring on our lists.
Instead of listing all MHA characters’ names, we’ve created some controversial lists of only the best My Hero Academia characters.
So, read on as we rank them according to their strengths, weaknesses, and Quirks.
MHA Characters – 10 Strongest Students in My Hero Academia
10. Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
- Age: 16
- Alias: Real Steel
- Quirk: Steel
Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu is a Yuuei Class 1-B student. He can harden his skin and turn it into steel, hence the alias Real Steel.
Aside from his Quirk, Tetsutetsu also has a similar fighting style to Kirishima. Both are great at melee combat, but Steel is a bit better at protecting himself and others.
9. Denki Kaminari
- Age: 16
- Alias: Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt
- Quirk: Electrification
Denki has a powerful Quirk using which he can generate electricity. He uses it to protect himself and blast his enemies using thunderbolts. And now that he has the wrist mounts, his attacks are more precise now.
Denki would have been higher on this list if he wasn’t such an airhead.
8. Tenya Iida
- Age: 16
- Alias: Turbo Hero: Ingenium
- Quirk: Engine
Tenya Iida has an engine in each of his calves. Powered by orange juice, Tenya’s engines give him frightening speed, and boy does he put it to good use. He’s Quirk isn’t the strongest, but Tenya uses it to great effect because he’s smart.
He nearly defeated the mighty Shoto Todoroki, and with the new engines in place, he might succeed the next time.
7. Hitoshi Shinso
- Age: 16
- Alias: –
- Quirk: Brainwashing
That Quirk should tell you how dangerous this Class 1-C student is. Shota Aizawa has helped Hitoshi unlock the true potential of his Quirk.
Plus, his above-average fighting skills helped him clear the entrance exam. He’s also mastered the Cloth Bind technique. Hitoshi will be a powerful presence in the U.A. High in the coming seasons.
6. Shoto Todoroki
- Age: 16
- Alias: Shoto
- Quirk: Half Cold-Half Hot
Shoto Todoroki has hit the Quirk jackpot. He can manipulate fire, like his father, and tamper with ice, like his mother. He is Endeavor’s son and is already considered one of the best pro-heroes-to-be.
He is still young, though. And his father is giving it to him during training sessions.
5. Bakugo Katsuki
- Age: 17
- Alias: Kachaan/Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight
- Quirk: Explosion
Bakugo Katsuki is one of the strongest U.A. High students when it comes to raw power. Add his Explosive Quirk and he becomes a real prospect for the Heroes. He got a brief taste of One For All, and ever since his goal is to surpass that level of power.
And since he trains with Shoto, under Endeavor’s guidance, Bakugo’s destined for greatness.
4. Izuku Midoriya
- Age: 16
- Alias: Deku
- Quirk: One For All
The main protagonist of My Hero Academia is not currently the strongest student at U.A. High. Although we all know he has the power and the potential to be No. 1, he needs a lot of training to control and channel it.
But he’ll get there eventually; after all, he is the chosen successor of All Might.
3. Nejire Hado
- Age: 18
- Alias: Nejire Chan
- Quirk: Wave Motion
Najire Hado is the strongest and cutest out of The Big 3 (the 3 students in Class 3-A). She can use her own life energy to create powerful blasts to critically damage targets.
She’s got power, she’s got range, and she’s got a little too much curiosity for other people’s Quirks.
2. Tamaki Amajiki
- Age: 18
- Alias: Suneater
- Quirk: Manifest
Tamaki’s determination to keep going makes him one of the strongest pro-heroes in the making. His Quirk might not be the most impressive, but Tamaki can 100x the results with his high combat IQ.
Plus, his diet dictates his Quirk. So if he can eat something good, he can manifest a lot of raw strength.
1. Mirio Togata
- Age: 18
- Alias: Lemillion
- Quirk: Permeation
Hands down the strongest student in My Hero Academia. He’s also a part of the Big 3. All Might had already chosen him as his successor, but then he met Izuku and changed his mind.
But that didn’t make any difference to Mirio’s determination to become the best. His skills are only improving as he masters Permeation.
MHA Characters – Top 5 Pro Heroes in My Hero Academia
5. Rumi Usagiyama
- Age: 27
- Hero Name: Mirko/Tiger Bunny
- Hero Type: Rabbit Hero
- Quirk: Rabbit
Rumi is the only female MHA Pro Hero in the Top 5. Although she’s had limited appearances in the anime, fans have already fallen in love with her unique Quirk.
The Rabbit quirk does exactly what you’d think it does. It gives Rumi the abilities of a rabbit, and it’s not just hopping about.
She’s got speed, incredibly strong legs that pack quite the kick, amplified hearing, and more undisclosed abilities. She’ll definitely break into the top 3 at some point.
4. Shinya Kamihara
- Age: 34
- Hero Name: Edgeshot
- Hero Type: Ninja Hero
- Quirk: Foldabody
Shinya Kamihara is a Ninja who can transform himself into a long and thin sword-like human being. Once he distorts, his body becomes an ultra-sharp string that cuts through almost anything.
But it’s not just stretching, he can contract as well. And when all of this happens at a speed faster than sound, it’s terrifying to be at the receiving end.
3. Tsunagu Hakamada
- Age: 36
- Hero Name: Best Jeanist
- Hero Type: Fiber Hero
- Quirk: Fiber Master
Tsunagu Hakamada is far from your conventional hero and has a Quirk unheard of. He can manipulate fabric. It sounds dull, but here’s what he can do.
He uses his own clothes for offense and defense. But his Quirk allows him to control and manipulate the clothes of his enemies as well. So, he can incapacitate his enemies by making their own clothes turn on them. It’s much more useful and dangerous than it sounds.
2. Keigo Takami
- Age: 23
- Hero Name: Hawks
- Hero Type: Wing Hero
- Quirk: Fierce Wings
Keigo Takami is the second most powerful Pro Hero in MHA, and he’s one of the youngest. At 23, he’s already the number 2 Pro Hero thanks to his complex Quirk.
The pair of red wings help him fly around and his telekinetic abilities let him shoot the feathers as blades. As he gains experience and control over his Fierce Wings, he’s not too far off from the top spot.
1. Enji Todoroki
- Age: 46
- Hero Name: Endeavor
- Hero Type: Flame Hero
- Quirk: Hellflame
Enji Todoroki claimed the top spot after All Might left the Pro Hero title. The endeavor can create fiery flames out of nothing and manipulate them to a great extent. He has such control over his Quirk that he can manifest weapons for himself out of thin air.
He’s also become a mentor to some of the strongest students in My Hero Academia, so it’d be interesting to see how his character progresses.
MHA Characters – 5 Best Teachers in My Hero Academia
5. Ectoplasm
- Age: 42
- Hero Name: –
- Quirk: Clones
- Subject: Math
Think of Ectoplasm as the Snape of My Hero Academia. He’s not a student favorite, but he does his job exceedingly well. He’s not afraid to go hard on his students to get the best out of them.
But he isn’t just a relentless teacher. Ectoplasm is one of the best fighters among the U.A. High staff as well. And when he creates up to 30 clones of himself, he becomes a dangerous foe.
4. Hizashi Yamada
- Age: 31
- Hero Name: Present Mic
- Quirk: Voice
- Subject: English
Present Mic is the MC and the designated comic relief character of Boku No Hero Academia.
He teaches English, but mostly he just announces things. The only reason he’s on this list is because of his intelligence and because his unusual Quirk is undiscovered just yet. But, the students love him.
3. Shota Aizawa
- Age: 31
- Hero Name: Eraser Head
- Quirk: Erasure
- Subject: Homeroom Teacher
Shota Aizawa is one of the most dangerous MHA characters because of his Quirk. He can suppress anyone’s Quirk just by looking at them directly. So, he’s not necessarily the strongest, but he can still defeat the most powerful villains.
As a teacher, Shota is very demanding and known for expelling students that can’t keep up. He’s a fan favorite because of his demeanor and his lazy habits.
2. Anan Kurose
- Age: 29
- Hero Name: Thirteen
- Quirk: Black Hole
- Subject: Rescue Training
Anan Kurose is a search and rescue specialist and an integral part of U.A. High staff. Her Quirk is as unique as her hero name. Thirteen can create a black hole using her fingers. Although small in size, it has the power and pull of a full-size black hole.
However, she rarely uses it in combat, and instead uses it for search and rescue operations to train her students.
1. Toshinori Yagi
- Age: 49
- Hero Name: All Might
- Quirk: One For All
- Subject: Foundational Heroics
And the best teacher award goes to All Might.
The greatest hero in Japan has been mentoring his successor from a very young age. And now that he’s a retired Pro Hero and a full-time teacher at U.A. High, no other teacher comes close to his power levels or his commitment to mentoring the new generation of Pro Heroes.
MHA Characters – 5 Toughest Villains in My Hero Academia
5. High-End Nomu
- Age: –
- Alias: Nomu U.S.J.
- Quirks: Shock Absorption, Super Regeneration
The villain that had the current number 1 Pro Hero, Endeavor, on the ropes deserves a spot in the Top 5. If it wasn’t for Hawks, High-End Nomu(Nomu U.S.J.) might have defeated Endeavor. He is the strongest out of all the Nomu, so it’s a good thing for the heroes that he is behind bars.
4. Kaina Tsutsumi
- Age: 38
- Alias: Lady Nagant
- Quirks: Rifle, Air Walk, Self Destruct
Kaina was once a Pro Hero who turned towards All For One after she saw the corruption in the Hero Association. She wanted to create a better society by becoming a hero, now she’s trying to do that from the other side of the pond.
Her Quirks include floating in mid-air and creating a sniper rifle out of her right arm with her locs providing the ammo.
3. Kai Chisaki
- Age: 28
- Alias: Overhaul
- Quirk: Overhaul
Kai can construct and deconstruct anything he touches, including humans. One touch and his enemies disintegrate as if they weren’t there. And because of this, Kai is the most feared villain among the Pro Heroes as well as the Villains.
2. Tomura Shigaraki
- Age: 21
- Alias: –
- Quirk: Decay, All For One
Next in line to head the League of Villains, Tomura is just behind All For One in terms of strength. His first Quirk, Decay, starts disintegrating anything he touches with five fingers. And he also has All for one, meaning he can absorb other people’s Quirks as well.
He’s recently undergone surgery to enhance his Quirks. That’s why he takes the 2nd spot on our list, right behind his master, All For One.
1. All For One
- Age: 100+
- Alias: All For One
- Quirk: All For One
All For One is the strongest villain Japan has ever seen. He is the only villain strong enough to fight All Might, and they did go toe to toe. But, All Might managed to defeat him and ship him off to Tartarus.
Now, as he mentors Tomura Shigaraki, All For One is ready for the return.
