The color Blue has countless interpretations. In some cultures, Blue symbolizes wisdom, calmness, and composure. While some countries hail Blue as a sacred color, a sign of hope, and a symbol of healing.
Around the globe, Blue is a reassuring color. However, North Americans decided that this serene color should represent sadness and the flag bearer of depression.
We saw the color Blue as Sadness in Pixar’s Inside Out. She did save the day in the end, but she was a buzz kill throughout the movie’s first half.
Thankfully, other Blue cartoon characters aren’t as depressing.
From meme kings to full-on entertainers, here are some famous Blue cartoon characters that are everything but sad.
20+ Most Popular Blue Cartoon Characters
20. The Blues
![the blues from angry birds](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/the-blues-from-angry-birds-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: The Angry Birds Movie 2
- Voice Actors: JoJo Siwa (Jay), Bridget Hoffman (Jake and Jim)
Let’s start with the latest entrants to the Blue cartoon characters roster.
Jim, Jake, and Jay are Eastern Bluebird triplets introduced at the end of the first Angry Birds Movie. The triplets are featured extensively in The Angry Birds Movie 2.
In the Angry Birds video games, The Blues are completely identical. But in the movies, the three have unique eye colors and separate personalities.
Jay is the mastermind of the trio thanks to his street smarts and his confidence. Jake is just an agent of chaos who likes pranking other birds and picking fights with the Pigs. Lastly, Jim is the slightly sober one.
He’s a bit more well-behaved and keeps his inner prankster well hidden. However, he does slip up now and then.
19. Rainbow Dash
![rainbow dash](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/rainbow-dash-1024x840.png)
- Show/Movie: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
- Voice Actors: Ashleigh Ball/Brittany Lauda (English), Lin Peiling (Chinese)
There’s no shortage of colorful characters in the My Little Pony franchise. Whether you’re looking for Yellow cartoon characters, Black cartoon characters, or any other color cartoon character, you’ll find a pony running around. Just like I found Rainbow Dash.
The Rainbow in her name is for her rainbow-colored hair and tail. Apart from that, she’s Blue through and through.
Rainbow Dash is a Pegasus Pony who’s in charge of Ponyville’s weather. Although she’s a night owl and never wakes up on time, Rainbow Dash is a dedicated weather manager.
RD can clear the skies to make way for the sun or make it rain when Ponyville needs it.
She’s quick, can fly, and keeps all the Ponyville clouds in check by kicking them into place.
18. The Snow Queen
![the snow queen](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/the-snow-queen.jpg)
- Show/Movie: The Snow Queen
- Voice Actors: Galina Tyunina (Russian), Cindy Robinson (English)
Next on my list is Snow Queen from Russia.
The main antagonist of The Snow Queen, Snow Queen, is the inspiration behind one of the most popular Disney princesses of recent times- Elsa from Frozen.
No one knows the Snow Queen’s real name. The only certain thing about her is that she can control polar winds and cover any land with snow to cause winter.
Sounds familiar? Read on.
The Snow Queen lives in an icy palace with a troll servant/sidekick.
It’s like Disney didn’t even try to hide it.
All the Snow Queen wants is a world covered in ice. But apparently, that is too much to accept for a bunch of children.
17. Skeletor
![skeletor](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/skeletor-1024x539.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Master of the Universe Franchise
- Voice Actors: Alan Oppenheimer/Mark Hamil.
Here’s the meme king I talked about.
There is no way you haven’t seen this guy around.
When he isn’t spamming the internet with “disturbing facts” memes, Skeletor antagonizes He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise.
Skeletor is a Blue Gar/Demon who is ripped as Rambo but has a skull for a face. While he may seem complicated, Skeletor is a simple man.
All he wants is unlimited power that’s hidden behind the walls of Castle Grayskull. This would make him powerful enough to kill He-Man and become a master of the universe.
Also known as Lord of Destruction, Skeletor has appeared in DC comics and animation. The character also appeared in a 1987 Master of the Universe live-action film, but that was just… no!
16. Huckleberry Hound
![huckleberry hound dog](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huckleberry-hound-dog-1024x768.jpg)
- Show/Movie: The Huckleberry Hound Show
- Voice Actors: Jeff Bergman/Billy West/Jim Conroy
I wasn’t about to leave out the star of an Emmy Award-winning cartoon show now, was I?
Created by Willian Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Huckleberry “Huck” Hound, a cartoon dog, debuted in The Huckleberry Hound Show in the late 60s. Huck is an anthropomorphic Bluetick Coonhound. He speaks with a Southern drawl, wears a boater hat, and tries to make the best of whatever life throws at him.
The Huckleberry Hound Show is a collection of short films that follows the various adventures and jobs of Huckleberry. And as you would suspect, whatever he does rarely goes to plan.
As cliche as the show and its idea seem today, it was one of the best children’s cartoons of its time, and it gave us an iconic Blue cartoon character to dress up as.
15. Ice King
![ice king](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ice-king-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Adventure Time
- Voice Actor(s): Tom Kenny
Ice King went from one of the most hated to one of the most loved Adventure Time characters after the big reveal.
When the series started, all Ice King wanted was to kidnap Princess Bubblegum and every other Princess he could find. Then he started stealing. And then, he decided to create an army of wives by marrying every Princess he kidnaps.
He isn’t exactly a good guy, but he isn’t pure evil either.
Once he loses the crown, we meet the real man behind the Ice King. His name is
Simon Petrikov. He lost everything during his search for the cursed crown.
Everything he did as the Ice King was because of that red-jeweled crown on his head.
14. Sally
![sally from cars](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/sally-from-cars.png)
- Show/Movie: Cars Franchise
- Voice Actor(s): Bonnie Hunt
Sally is one of my favorite Blue cartoon characters from Disney and deserves more respect. Fans were quick to disregard Sally as a minor character, but for me, she’s a total badass.
This 2002 Porsche Carrera is a fabled lawyer who left his corporate life for peace. She moved to Radiator Springs, opened a motel, and became a public attorney. You knew all that already, didn’t you?
But what you don’t know is that Sally has a 3596CC Engine that can hit a top speed of 177 MPH. While she might not be race-car material, she can hold her own if need be.
Sally should have had bigger roles in Cars 2 and 3, but the bromance of McQueen and Mater is too good to ignore for Disney. So, they sacrificed Sally.
13. Gumball Watterson
![gumball watterson](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/gumball-watterson-1024x768.jpg)
- Show/Movie: The Amazing World of Gumball
- Voice Actors: Logan Grove/Jacob Hopkins/Nicolas Cantu/Duke Cutler
Zachary Tristopher Watterson is the protagonist of one of Cartoon Network’s critically and commercially acclaimed shows- The Amazing World of Gumball. The show first aired in 2011 and ended in 2019.
By the end of 2022, over 130 million viewers watched this show worldwide.
The show’s meta-humor and unorthodox animation style helped the show gain a wide global audience. And Gumball Watterson made them stick.
Gumball’s Toonforce, his fun-loving and imaginative personality, and his ability to escape life-threatening situations all combine into an engaging character to watch for all ages.
Although his character changes somewhat in the 2nd season, the good bits remain.
12. Squidward Tentacles
![squidward quincy tentacles](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/squidward-quincy-tentacles-1024x539.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Spongebob Squarepants
- Voice Actors: Rodger Bumpass
First and foremost, let’s establish what color Squidward is. He’s not completely blue nor is he completely green. Squidward is a blue-green character. His color is a mixture of blue and green.
But, because of the underwater setting of the show, he appears more blue than green, so he’s on the list.
Squidward is an anthropomorphic octopus who lives in Bikini Bottom. He is short-tempered, impatient, and a complete jerk at times. But he hides it well. For example, Squidward hates his neighbors. But, because of his behavior, his neighbors are unaware of this hatred. In fact, they see him as a friend.
In other words, he’s the grown-up of the show.
The art fits the character description perfectly, and Rodger Bumpass’s incredible voice acting makes Squidward as condescending as he could possibly be.
11. Remy
![remy ratatouille](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/remy-ratatouille-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Ratatouille
- Voice Actors: Patton Oswalt
Ratatouille’s protagonist and Masterchef, Remy, is a blue rat who roams the streets of Paris with a dream of becoming a professional chef. But as Remy said himself, “I’m a rat which means life is hard.”
As it turns out, and as we all saw, it’s not that hard. All he had to do was get hold of a dumb human and his dream was sorted. Well, he also had to gang up on a food inspector and kidnap two people to really fulfill his dream, but as long as your heart’s in the right place, right?
By the end of the movie, this rat runs two restaurants- one for humans and one for his humongous family of rats.
10. Furrball
![furball](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/furball-1024x803.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Tiny Toon Adventures
- Voice Actors: Frank Welker
This little ball of fur appears Purple-ish sometimes, but his primary design has always had the color Blue. And if you don’t Furrball, it’s time you meet the Tom of Tiny Toon Adventures.
Furrball is the least anthropomorphic pet character to come out of any Warner Bros. production. That said, he is also one of their most recurring characters, appearing in multiple specials, movies, and video games.
Furrball is a street cat looking for a home. He’s missing a good chunk of his right ear and wears a bandage on his tail. Another famous Looney Tunes character, Sylvester Pussycat is Furrball’s mentor.
No wonder poor Furrball can’t find a home.
9. Sulley
![sulley monsters inc](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/sulley-monsters-inc-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Monsters Inc.
- Voice Actors: John Goodman
Who do you think is the best Monster from Monsters Inc.? Mike, right? Trying to scare children even though he is more cute than scary. He’s funny and he’s pretty smart for a monster.
He’s everyone’s favorite, right?
WRONG!
This blue giant here is the best Monster ever seen in the Monster franchise. Why? Because he excels at the very thing a Monster is supposed to do- scare the life out of children.
Sulley is confident, intimidating, tough, and hands-down the best scarer of Monster Inc. Despite that, he’s down to earth and kind to others. Sulley’s relationship with Boo is one of the cutest things ever.
If anyone ever says Mike is the better Monster out of the two, don’t let it slide. Mike may be funnier, but Sulley’s definitely the scarier one.
8. Sonic the Hedgehog
![sonic the hedgehog](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/sonic-the-hedgehog-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Sonic the Hedgehog
- Voice Actors: Roger Craig Smith
Sonic is everyone’s favorite Blue cartoon character. The only people who don’t like Sonic are those who don’t know who he is.
Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima created Sonic the Hedgehog for SEGA’s video game franchise. SEGA created this video game franchise, called Sonic the Hedgehog, to compete with Nintendo’s Mario series which was breaking records at the time.
Naoto Ohshima himself walked through Central Park, asking people what character should be used. Eventually, they settled for a Hedgehog.
Sonic is a humanoid hedgehog who just wants to live his life but can’t because of Doctor Eggman, his archnemesis.
After countless video games and cartoon series, Sonic eventually got a live-action film in 2020. If you don’t mind bad CGI, you should check it out.
7. Stitch
![stitch](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/stitch-1-741x1024.png)
- Show/Movie: Lilo & Stitch
- Voice Actors: Chris Sanders/Ben Diskin
When it comes to cute Blue cartoon characters, it’s hard to look past this koala-looking genetically engineered alien from Disney. He was supposed to be a hateful monster, but instead, he became a children’s favorite.
I am part of those children, and I hope you are too.
Originally named Experiment 626, Dr. Jumna Jookiba created Stitch to wreak havoc across galaxies. But, the United Galactic Federation got their hands on Dr. Jumba and his experiment.
The UGF decides that 626 will spend his life on an abandoned asteroid. While escorting him to the asteroid, the spaceship crashes and lands in Hawaii.
That’s when Lilo finds 626, names him Stitch and the adventures begin!
6. Blu
![blu from rio](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/blu-from-rio-1024x573.png)
- Show/Movie: Rio
- Voice Actors: Jesse Eisenberg
While Jesse Eisenberg wouldn’t have been my first choice to play a talking parrot in a kids’ movie, 20th Century Studios had other ideas.
Aptly named, Blu is a domesticated Blue Spix’s Macaw. Blu is Linda Gunderson’s pet at the start of the movie. He can use a laptop, he can skate, and he can do a lot of things that other birds can’t do. But Blu can’t do one thing- fly!
Yes, being a house bird, Blu never learned to fly. On top of that, he’s never met wild animals in his life and has no clue what to do when he finally steps out of the cage.
But, he takes a leap of faith when he meets Jewel, a female Spix’s Macaw.
5. Dory
![dory](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/dory.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Finding Nemo
- Voice Actors: Ellen DeGeneres
Who could forget Dory from Finding Nemo? The character got so popular that Disney gave her a stand-alone movie, Finding Dory, that came out in 2016.
Voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, Dory is a Regal Blue Tang who is very hospitable and friendly. She’s the glass-half-full type of fish who accompanies Marlin to help him find Nemo.
However, she’s far from the best search party member because Dory suffers from short-term memory loss. On top of that, she’s unbearably naive. She walked into a Sharks-Only club and she left Marlin alone to fight on several occasions.
But, the ditzy Dory proved her worth when she revealed that she can read English and talk to whales as well.
Dory was great in Finding Nemo, but she’s even better in her own adventure of finding her family in Finding Dory.
4. Mordecai
![mordecai regular show](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/mordecai-regular-show-1024x576.png)
- Show/Movie: Regular Show
- Voice Actors: J.G. Quintel
The Regular Show is one of the cartoon series that played a huge part in the resurrection of Cartoon Network. The show is full of unique and entertaining characters, but none more so than Mordecai.
Mordecai is a Blue Jay bird who lives and works with a raccoon named Rigby. The two work at the Park as groundskeepers and are terrible at their job. But Mordecai’s maturity and intelligence are their saviors.
Whenever Rigby causes chaos, which happens all the time, Mordecai bails him out as his best and only friend. On the other hand, Mordecai is rarely the center of any problem.
Mordecai is quite the ladies’ man as well. Throughout the show, he’s had 9 love interests before eventually marrying Stef (his 9th love interest.)
3. Megamind
![megamind](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/megamind-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Megamind
- Voice Actors: Will Ferell
A criminally underrated movie from DreamWorks Animation, Megamind eventually became a cult classic. With a star cast of Will Ferrel, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, and more, this movie certainly deserved a lot more attention.
But, it paid the price of trying to do something different in the superhero genre, and that didn’t sit well with critics.
The main character Megamind is an alien who’s supremely smart but fails in comparison to another alien who is basically a toned-down Superman called Metro Man.
Megamind keeps challenging his nemesis and keeps losing but never gives up.
When he finally defeats Metro Man, he gets bored and creates a villain for himself. That villain goes rogue, and Megamind ends up becoming the hero of the very city he terrorized for years.
2. The Smurfs
![the smurfs](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/the-smurfs-1024x576.jpg)
- Show/Movie: The Smurfs
- Voice Actors: Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria
Here’s a whole bunch of Blue cartoon characters because picking one or two Smurfs out of the loot is something no mere mortal can do.
Did you know Smurfs originate from Belgian comics of the same name? Belgian artist Peyo created the Smurfs. The comics were adapted into video games and eventually, they made their way to Hollywood.
The Smurfs are humanoid creatures who are completely blue. They live in mushroom houses, and their names represent their personalities. Some are lazy, some are smart and some are angry, but all of them are adorable.
That’s why they had their own theme park, and the first Smurfs movie was Sony Picture’s most successful animated film before Into the Spider-verse came along.
1. Genie
![genie from aladdin](https://www.animeinformer.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/genie-from-aladdin-1024x512.jpg)
- Show/Movie: Aladin
- Voice Actors: Robin Williams
The single most popular Blue cartoon character and the most entertaining one as well, Robin Williams’ Genie will forever be etched into eternity.
Genie’s character design itself is iconic enough, but Robin Williams’s voice acting added that much-needed star quality to the character and the whole movie in general.
Aladdin first meets Genie in the Cave of Wonders after Aladdin and his monkey, Abu, get stuck in the cave. Genie grants Aladdin 3 wishes. But, Aladdin tells Genie that his 3rd wish will be to set Genie free as freedom is what Genie wants the most.
Genie then helps Aladdin escape the Cave and become a rich prince so that Aladdin can win over the Princess of Agrabah, Jasmine.
Conclusion
And those are some of the best and most popular Blue cartoon characters.
There are some obvious absentees like Cookie Monster, Road Runner, and more. But I wanted to shout out some newcomers- so someone’s gotta go.
