Regardless of your “type,” there’s an anime waifu out there for everyone. Even female fans can have their own waifus- we aren’t limited to just husbandos!

I’ve put together some of my favorite waifus from all the anime I’ve watched over the years. You’ll find anime girls of all types, body shapes, personalities, and backgrounds in this list.

Anime fans immediately fell in love with Yor Forger once she became a fake but devoted wife & mother in Spy x Family.
She really plays the role of the wife almost perfectly. While she might not cook the best meals, the way she always tries her best to be the mother in the Forger family makes her impossibly endearing.
On the flip side, she’s also a badass/hottest assassin ever called the Thorn Princess.
The only downside about Yor is probably her choice of friends at the Berlint City Hall (although I hope they’ll be nicer to her in the future).

A classic waifu from one of the best anime series of all time, Winry was one of the first female characters that really struck a chord in me as a young fan.
Winry, who isn’t as active in battle as opposed to Riza Hawkeye, has her own strengths in the series.
The captivating fact about Winry lies in her personality. Despite how dire the situation is, Winry always manages to be the ray of sunshine that pushes everyone not to give up hope.
She was able to help a mother give birth to a baby in earlier episodes and is even responsible for making and maintaining Edward’s automail.
Also, who could resist Winry in her usual attire?

3. Marin Kitagawa – My Dress-Up Darling

Marin Kitagawa is a waifu who understands what it’s like for a female otaku to have their own waifu. She was a huge fan of Shizuku Kuroe to the point she wanted to cosplay her.
Marin is a girl of many surprises. Despite her popularity, she has always been friendly to Gojo, even before she knew of his hobby. Her appeal gets even stronger once you discover how much of a sweetheart she is once she develops a crush on Gojo.
Also, who wouldn’t want to be together with Marin? She’s a cultured otaku who doesn’t shy away from the things she loves that make her happy.

4. Miku Nakano – The Quintessential Quintuplets

Miku may not have won the heart of Fuutarou, but she’s still the top candidate among her siblings to be the best Waifu.
Why? Have you seen her pouting face?
It is a huge highlight of her character, and fans of the series fell hard for the introverted Miku. Apart from that, Miku has one of the best character arcs in the series. Thanks to her crush on Fuutarou, Miku undergoes some big changes.
I think the fact that Miku hardly shows emotion makes her the most “moe” character when she finally does. She’s also a huge history nerd and was the first of the Quintuplets to admit to having a crush on our main protagonist.
The other 4 sisters are also pretty awesome, but I just had to pick the best girl out of the 5.

Does everyone still remember the “I Love Emelia” meme? Rem fans were so disappointed when Subaru finally chose Emilia. Her heartfelt confession to the main character was beautiful, but Subaru had to ruin the moment by turning it down.
Of course, the heartbreak is more on us -since it’s the fans that choose to love Rem more over Emelia. And it’s not hard to love Rem. The girl is extremely cute with her baby-like face and a maid’s outfit. She’s also very protective over the ones she loves.
If you’re lucky enough to have Rem love you, just know that this French maid is willing to die for you – she’s literally engineered to be the perfect waifu.

Makima is the type of waifu that doesn’t need protection. In fact, she can protect herself and you from other Demons.
In the first Chainsaw Man popularity poll, Makima got second overall. Even Denji himself has a massive crush on her. As the anime progresses, you’ll notice a more sinister take on Makima’s character, which kind of makes her hotter!
People also got enamored when Pochita explained the meaning behind her actions. It turns out Makima’s true desire was to have a legitimate family. But, because she is a Control Devil, Makima can never form any true bonds and can never have a family as a result. So, fans held their hearts out for her.

7. Kaguya Shinomiya – Kaguya-Sama: Love is War

Being the best girl usually translates to being the best waifu, and Kaguya Shinomiya is just that.
Says who? Well, she won the Best Girl of the Year in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021.
Sure, she may be flat, but who says that people can’t be into that? As they say, flat is justice. But despite seeming like an absolute ice queen, Kaguya is one of the most loving characters in the anime.
While she’s a tough shell to crack, once she considers you a significant other, she will do her absolute best to protect you or at least use her money to get the job done.

8. Rumi Usagiyama/ Mirko – My Hero Academia

Buff girl with thighs that can possibly smash your face – that’s really all you need to know to start your interest with the Rabbit Hero Rumi Usagiyam, also known as Mirko.
She is loud and brutally honest, so you’ll always know what’s on her mind. The Pro Hero takes her job and her rank very seriously.
If you’re up to date with the My Hero Academia anime and manga, you’ll know that Rumi will literally fight to her last breath to protect people. Ironically based on her background as an underground fighter during her younger years, she likes to maintain order as a hero.

9. Megumi Tadokoro – Food Wars/ Shokugeki No Soma

While fans love their strong independent waifus, some will find themselves attracted to the firm but quiet girl at the back of the class.
Megumi Tadokoro will capture you with her sweet and thoughtful personality! Not only is she adorable, Megumi knows how to handle herself in the kitchen. She currently holds the 10th seat on the Elite Ten Council, the best student chefs of Totsuki Academy.
Her character development is also one of the more promising ones as she slowly grows more confident in her abilities allowing her to compete in food wars more calmly.
Despite Megumi growing into a confident young woman, fans will still love to protect this talented chef!

Riza Hawkeye is a top-tier Full Metal Alchemist anime waifu and deserves more love.
Riza is a soldier and the personal bodyguard of Colonel Roy Mustang. A simple reminder that the colonel is useless in the rain, and Riza saved his ass on several occasions. And, if it wasn’t for her, Roy would have kicked the bucket by now.
Despite the rough and strict exterior, Riza also has her sweet sides. You can catch them whenever she interacts with Ed, Alphonse, Winry, and her beloved Shiba Inu, Black Hayate.

11. Mio Akiyama – K-On

Before Bocchi the Rock was a thing, anime and music fans had K-On, and back then, everyone considered Mio Akiyama the best waifu among her bandmates.
Ho-Kago Tea Time’s bassist and vocalist tries her best to avoid the spotlight. She even chose a supporting instrument despite being musically talented. However, she’s too “moe” for her own good. Even her best friend knows this and uses her popularity to her advantage.
Mio is tall with long black hair, a great body, and a fantastic voice. And since she’s responsible for most of her band’s greatest hits, Mio has her own fan club and plenty of stalkers (all female).

When we think of impactful waifus, we can’t ignore Power from Chainsaw Man. The internet practically went wild the day she was finally animated.
Power is a fiend and pretty much lives up to her nature. In a lot of ways, her appeal is similar to Mirko’s. If you read the Chainsaw Man manga, you’ll notice Power literally bursting through every panel to make her presence known.
What makes Power attractive is her nature to live in the present.
She believes in “YOLO” and lives life the way she sees fit. Despite being rude, crass, and even filthy, fans seem to love her for being the different girl in the series.

13. Nezuko – Demon Slayer

Aside from being one of the cutest waifus, Nezuko is also considered a candidate for the role of Best Imouto.
Despite her inability to speak (for now), Nezuko has proven to be one of the best characters in the entire Demon Slayer series.
She manages to retain a portion of her humanity despite ingesting demon blood and does a spectacular job keeping her cravings in check by sleeping off her hunger.
Nezuko tends to look at other humans as part of her family and strives to protect them from demons. Despite meeting strangers for the first time, Nezuko always seems to have a welcoming aura about her- that’s not normal for a demon, but it’s a waifu trademark.

14. Mikasa Ackerman – Attack on Titan

Historia might have captured the other characters’ hearts in the early part of the series, but Mikasa is the best waifu from Attack on Titan.
In the first place, Mikasa is considered rare, being one of the few orientals living inside the walls. In addition to her looks, she knows how to kick ass. Studio Mappa also did a great job showing off her prowess against the Titans by giving her some of the best fight scenes in anime history.
Her will to live, love, and devotion towards Eren are also attractive traits. If Mikasa loves you, she’ll even love your severed head.

15. Katarina Claes – My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

Being isekai’d to an adventure RPG is old news. Katerina got herself isekai’d to an otome game, that too as the villainess.
Now, she’s in a tricky situation. Because no matter what she does, her character always ends up with a bad ending due to her terrible personality in the game. So Katarina does her best to avoid ending up like the character she is playing.
We love this version of the isekai’d Katerina because she is more outgoing and helpful. Also, she is open, honest, and down to earth- completely different from what people would expect her to be due to her status as a noble.

16. Hinata Hyuga – Naruto

Hinata sort of flew under everyone’s radar at the beginning of Naruto, but she grew into a beautiful kunoichi by the time Naruto Shippuden started. It still took time for Naruto to notice her, but she’s been the best girl for him since they were kids.
Under the soft-spoken and polite personality lies a girl you don’t want to mess with. Hinata has been an underrated ninja since her training days, but she’s proven her Twin Lion Fist technique, and her prowess with Taijutsu isn’t something you can take lightly.
Hinata has minimal screen time, but every time she is on screen, her presence plays a huge role – this sets her apart from the other female characters in Naruto.

17. Zero Two – DARLING in the FRANXX

Once Zero Two calls you her “darling,” I’m sure you’ll get hooked on her.
Zero Two has a dangerous allure to her, not the same kind as Power and Mirko but more similar to Mikasa’s attraction. You can tell from the design alone that she was destined to be the waifu of the series. Other girls pale in comparison to the pink-haired elite pilot.
She is also the best-written character in the series. Her backstory is well fleshed out compared to other characters, and her personality shifts are interesting to watch throughout the series.
Even how she acts once she starts to develop feelings for the male protagonist got fans falling for her.

18. Asuna Yuuki – Sword Art Online

Anime fans all love the tough girl with a sweet and loving side. Asuna seems to be just that kind of girl in Sword Art Online.
In the first series, Asuna took it upon herself to save the lives of hundreds of players who got stuck in SAO alongside her.
Her stubborn personality also shows in lighter parts of the anime, such as how she attempts to fight players over her cooking and her refusal to back down from fights and challenges.
More fans fell in love with her when she took care of Yui, an AI in the game. When she and Kirito finally discovered their feelings for each other, she was a sweet girlfriend to him.

19. Chizuru Mizuhara – Rent-a-Girlfriend

Rent-a-Girlfriend is a brilliant shoujo anime and one I recommend to every romance anime fan. And Chizuru is probably one of the most realistic female protagonists in any anime ever.
She is a rental girlfriend who manages to maintain her professionalism with her clients despite possible feelings for them. Through Chizuru, viewers get to see how hard it is to be a real rental girlfriend.
As a rental girlfriend, Chizuru is charming and attractive, traits a waifu should also have. Even though she is technically on the job when she is with Kazuya, she knows how to set boundaries and limits.
She may be a “rental” girlfriend, but she’s definitely one of the best anime waifus that will permanently have a space in a fan’s heart.

20. Kosaki Onodera – Nisekoi

As if Subaru turning down Rem wasn’t bad enough, Kosaki Onodera, the best girl in Nisekoi, also couldn’t be with the love of her life. Admittedly though, it was her fault. She missed her opportunity.
But just because she didn’t end up with the main character doesn’t mean she is the worst girl- in fact, Onodera is a fan favorite despite showing the least development.
Why? Because she’s the very definition of sweetness and needs to be protected at all costs. She suffered so much growing up but still retained her timid and caring personality.
This girl deserves the world and all the love it can give.

21. Raphtalia – The Rising of the Shield Hero

Another Crunchyroll Best Girl Award Winner, Raphtalia from The Rising Shield Hero, nabbed the award back in 2020 against tough competitors.
Cat and bunny girls are getting pretty common, so The Rising of the Shield Hero gifted viewers with the best raccoon girl they could ever create, and no one is complaining. Round ears and a fuzzy tail have never looked so appealing!
Aside from her appearance, Raphtalia’s journey to level up is also inspiring. Throughout the series, fans got to witness her train to become the best sword in her party.
Well, she had to, considering the main guy can only defend.
Where to Watch The Rising Shield Hero
22. Rin Tohsaka – Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
If you didn’t see Rin Tohsaka’s appeal in the first Fate/ Stay Night series, I recommend watching Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works to truly appreciate Rin as a waifu.
Rin is one of the earlier tsundere written right. She was never too mean to Shirou. On the contrary, she’s been nothing but helpful to Shirou since the inexperienced mage became Saber’s master.
She even cares about his well-being since she initiated that they go out on a date to take Shirou’s mind off the Holy Grail War, even if it’s just for a moment- and it worked! Despite being portrayed as slightly colder towards the main protagonist, her talent as a mage shines the best in the movie trilogy.

23. Yuno Gasai – Mirai Nikki

Since this list has a few tsunderes and kuuderes, let’s add a Yandere in here. Yuno Gasai has been THE poster girl for yanderes since 2011.
If you want a girl absolutely devoted to you, Yuno Gasai will literally kill for you if you are her current obsession.
Before the start of Future Diaries, Yuno was pretty popular and could have anyone she set her mind to, but she decided to have an obsession with Yukiteru. While Yukiteru might feel this obsession is suffocating, he got saved thanks to Yuno’s crazy stalker tendencies more than once in the series.

24. Kurisu Makise – Steins; Gate

If you like the strong-independent type, Kurisu Makise is the perfect waifu!
She accomplished so much at a young age that she had to appear strong and cold to defend herself from people who envy her. Her upfront strict side caused characters like Okabe to nickname her “The Zombie,” much to her annoyance.
She’s a tsundere, but the troupe isn’t too loud or too forceful on her, making her company more pleasing.
Kurisu initially believed that time machines and time travel were only works of fiction. Still, after seeing Okabe’s stress and fear, she knew to take Okabe’s story about his time-traveling experience seriously.

25. Megumin – Konosuba

Konosuba has a lot of girls that are definitely waifu material, but I’ll go with the explosion girl Megumin.
The small Arch Wizard leaves quite an impression with her robust and loud personality. She’s the ideal waifu for people who would like a literal ball of energy to take care of. Megumin is also one of the cuter characters who look younger than their actual age, a loli, to put a name to the term.
However, just because she acts childish doesn’t mean she’s dumb.
She also loves Explosion magic and focused on increasing all her stats to strengthen her strongest explosion spell. That might not have been her best idea, but this makes her a really amusing party mate to have.

26. Suletta Mercury – Mobile Suit Gundam The Witch From Mercury

Suletta Mercury is a new player in the game; she actually plays the role of a to-be-husband in her own anime, The Witch From Mercury. For those of you confused, same-sex marriage is pretty common in that world, and Suletta is often referred to as a “bride-groom.”
Because she was raised in Mercury, where the population is tiny, Suletta lacks social skills. She considers her Gundam as her best friend and sister. Her ditzy and innocent personality makes her such a unique and adorable character in the Gundam franchise. Suletta’s signature tanuki eyebrows are a bonus.
However, because she is “pure,” she can easily be manipulated by the people she holds dear, specifically by her mother.
Her devotion to her fiancé Miorine is also something admirable. While I’m not sure if the two have a romantic attraction toward each other, it’s pretty clear they are willing to risk everything to protect each other.

27. Saber/Artoria – Fate/Stay Night

Saber, specifically Artoria, is probably the most popular waifu in the Fate series, which is why there are so many versions of Artoria in the fate universe.
She’s basically the face of the entire franchise! It’s thanks to Saber’s waifu capabilities that kept the Fate series afloat in its original run.
These are strong statements, I know.
Let’s look back at Fate/ Prototype, where they introduced a non-gender-bent version of King Arthur. The idea didn’t fly as well and was eventually scrapped. When they redesigned everything to how the original Fate series is now, the Fate franchise grew exceptionally well.
Making a gender-bent Arthur was a good idea. And giving her an Ahoge, was also the best possible move when it came to designing her hair.

28. Shinobu Kocho – Demon Slayer

Shinobu is a fan-favorite in the Demon Slayer franchise. Her fighting style is pretty unique when it comes to defeating demons. Instead of slicing off a demon’s head like the other Demon Slayers, she has a special blade that allows her to inject lethal poison into their system.
Demon Slayer Corps usually have very kind and pleasant female members, but Shinobu has a sarcastic nature about her. She also covers her wrath under a cheery exterior.
The flaws make her unique and have fans falling for her.

29. Shouko Komi – Komi Can’t Communicate

Komi is the best waifu. Even her classmates think so. But her classmates don’t fully grasp how bad her communication disorder really is.
Komi is really popular in school because of her slender body and beautiful face. She has the looks of the ultimate waifu, but that’s not what makes her complete waifu material.
What fans find endearing is her communication disorder and her wholesome desire to make 100 friends even if talking to people is challenging for her. When she talks, she can only make sounds.
She’s doing her best, though, which is why people love her.

Part of being a great waifu is to have a charming personality and equally beautiful looks. Erika Amano certainly excels in both departments, which is why she is so popular in and out of the anime.
Erika is an Instagram celebrity, and her reason for starting her page is that she is looking for someone.
A childhood friend, maybe?
Anyway, she ends up in an arranged marriage with the main character and is forced to live with him and transfer schools.
It’s during this transition that we get to see Erika as something more than a spoiled brat.
